How the scores work
This scorecard covers 14 residential roofers serving the Seattle metro, RoofSmart included. Every number comes from public records and each company's own website, listed below the company cards, and one written rule set was applied to every company.
Each company first had to pass an entry check: an active Washington L&I contractor license with a bond and liability insurance on file.
Every company gets the same nine checks and the same BBB deduction. The weights add up to 100; the BBB deduction comes off the score out of 60.

The score uses the simple average of those two figures, so Google and Yelp count equally. If a company has no Yelp (or no Google) reviews in that window, we use the other platform alone. If neither platform can be verified, the line scores 0. A company needs at least 10 reviews in the window across both platforms to earn points. Each L&I count is the number of inspections that ended with citations, however many violation lines an inspection lists, and it is counted the same way for all 14 companies. Inspections under appeal are included in the count.
BBB complaints: BBB shows the last three years, so this rule applies to that window only. A company with more than 3 BBB complaints in the last three years, which is more than one a year, loses 5 points from its score out of 60. A company with 3 or fewer loses nothing, so a clean record costs nothing. We read each company's BBB profile on October 23, 2026. BBB reports the counts and we did not check them. For Erie Home and DaBella, BBB's counts are nationwide totals. The note under the BBB table gives the average per state.
A low score means the company doesn't show that publicly, not that it doesn't do it.
Years in business counts because many new businesses do not last.
Of private establishments opened in the year to March 2020, 49% nationally and 58% in Washington were gone by March 2025 (BLS).1
