How Do I Get Started With RoofSmart After My Roof Inspection?

Are you feeling lost when thinking about what should happen after your roof inspection? Have you ever wished that roofing companies would just explain to you what needs to happen before you even get started?
In the past year, we at RoofSmart have completed several hundred roofing jobs. During each job, we walked our customers through the post-inspection process. Now, we’re going to do the same for you with this article.
In this article, we will explain our post-inspection process so that you’ll know exactly how to get started and what to expect when the time comes to get your new roof.
What can I expect once the roof inspection is complete?
Once the roof inspection is finished, it will be time to go over the proposal that your estimator (also known as your own personal Meticulous Roofing Nerd) created based on what they found during the inspection.
Your Nerd will take things off or add to the proposal under your guidance. The goal of this discussion is to make sure that you are fully satisfied with the proposal and that it is custom-tailored to meet your specific roofing needs and wants.
Typically, this discussion happens right after an inspection. But, that might change if your Nerd found several issues with your roof and the surrounding areas. For example, there could be mold in your attic, or perhaps there are leaks all over your roof.
Or maybe there were no issues with your roof, but you would like us to do something more technical like installing a roof deck.
In any of these cases that go way beyond just removing the old shingles and putting new ones in their place, your Meticulous Roofing Nerd will require more time to plan out the proposal. You can expect to hear back from them and have a follow-up appointment to discuss the proposal within a week of the inspection.
You and your Nerd will go through the proposal together line by line to ensure that you fully understand why each recommendation is there and how it will benefit you. Of course, you will also discuss the total cost of the roofing job.
How do I accept a proposal from a roofing company?
After you’ve had an inspection with your Meticulous Roofing Nerd and you have gone through the proposal together step by step to ensure that you’re fully satisfied with it, you can either sign the proposal right then and there or take a few days to think about it.
This is a big decision, so we are more than happy to give you some time to consider our proposal. You can expect to get a call from your Nerd after a few days to see how they can address any further questions or concerns you may have.
Once you sign the proposal it becomes an official contract between you and RoofSmart that gives us the go-ahead to kick your roofing project into gear.
It’s important to keep in mind that our proposals are only good up to 30 days after they are presented to you. This is because material costs change often, so we can only offer the costs given in your proposal for so long.
What happens after I sign the roofing contract?
Scheduling and payments
Once you sign your proposal, we’ll hand it over to our production team so they can start working on it.
That’s when we’ll start planning your job out. This includes reviewing your proposal to see what our crews will need to get done and what materials we will need to order for your roof. The materials will then be ordered and set to ship to your house.
Once your job is scheduled, we will call you to confirm to you that you’re in our system and you will be sent an invoice that shows you the price due for the entire roofing job. This is when you’ll pay our standard initial deposit of 30%.
Preparing the job site
Around the same time that you get your first invoice, you will get an email from us explaining what to expect as we work on your roof and how to prepare your home and property for the roofing job.
The beginning of the email looks like this:
This is just a template (you can expect to see your own information in the beginning) but the bulk of the email is the same for everyone.
Here are some key tips from the email to guide you as you prepare your property for the roofing job:
- Empty the driveway: We ask that you keep your driveway clear and park on the street if possible. This will help us avoid congesting the street and potentially blocking you in your driveway. You should also move away boats, RVs, or trailers so that we have easy access to your property.
- Tell your neighbors: It might be a good idea to give your neighbors a quick heads-up that you will be having work done on your roof so that the noise and extra activity in the neighborhood do not catch them off guard.
- Clear the workspace: If you have any plants, patio furniture, or pots sitting outside we ask that you move them away from the edge of the roof to keep them clear of any debris that may fall off the roof.
- Tell us if we need to take extra precautions: We will bring plywood and tarps to protect different areas of your property as needed, but if there is a special item, such as a tree or bush, that you cannot move please let us know ahead of time. That way, we can build a box to go around it and ensure that it is protected.
- Clear your walls inside: The work we will do on your roof can cause vibrations in the walls. If you have any loose items on shelves or pictures hanging on the wall, it would be best to remove them until we are completely done working on your roof.
- Give us property access: If you are not planning on being home while we are working, we ask that you leave your gate unlocked so that we have easy access to your yard. We will also need access to a power source that is located outside.
After all of that happens, you are ready for the roofing job to begin!
