Are you uncertain about who is going to be showing up at your house once the roofing job starts? Are you frustrated that no one seems to be able to clearly explain what makes a roofing contractor qualified?

At RoofSmart, we have educated hundreds of homeowners annually about our crew qualifications.

This article explains our hiring process so you can feel confident in our services. We’ll outline our process for hiring roofing crews and how we are qualified to meet your roofing needs. By the end of this article, you will know what RoofSmart brings to the table for you and you will be able to determine if we are a good fit for you.

Who is on RoofSmart’s qualified roofing team?

Our roofing teams are part of our production department and consist of 5 crews. We have 4-5 people on each crew. This number includes the foremen who are each in charge of their own crew.

This crew size is typical for the industry. We keep crews at this size because it is a happy medium that allows for maximum efficiency on the job without having a bunch of extra crew members getting in the way. Having fewer than 4 crew members can make it tough to get done in a timely manner.

The members of management who are in charge of all of the roofing crews are our Master Installer and the Production Manager. Our Master Installer is one of three owners of the company and oversees the entire production team.

Our Master Installer does a lot of hands-on work with the crews. He loves to get up on the roof and do what he does best. When we do any specialty projects, he will be there to oversee the crew and to lend his expertise.

Our Production Manager facilitates internal communication by going out to roofing jobs to prep the crews on what needs to be done to the roof at the beginning of a job. He and our Production Coordinator will be primary contacts for you during your roof job. They’ll be the ones who will call you if any major changes need to be made to your roof.

How is RoofSmart’s roofing team hired and trained?

All of the people on our roofing team are selected based on their previous experience in the roofing industry. We offer competitive pay and hold our crews to the highest standards of quality when it comes to roofing, so having previous experience is a must.

When we are hiring new crews, they come by referral and word of mouth. We hire crews this way because we’ve found that it is a great way to be sure that we are only hiring the best of the best.

Often with roofing companies, you will see just small one-person operations, or if it is a bigger company, they’ll have a sales and marketing team but then they subcontract out the roofing jobs. At RoofSmart we believe that hiring roofing crews internally is the best way to ensure the meticulous attention to detail that leads to high-quality results.

Hiring crews to be part of our company and providing them with competitive wages leads to a net positive for us and for you, the customer, because it is the best way to ensure great work every time.

Upon being hired, new crews are trained on our practice roof to familiarize them with our methods and procedures. They are expected to be experts in the tools, materials, and practices used both within the industry and at RoofSmart.

To aid in this process, all members of our roofing team participate in training courses created by shingle manufacturers. Once the team members pass these courses they earn certifications that demonstrate expertise in the roofing industry. A popular option for us is the courses created by Ownes Corning, which is a manufacturer that we work with a lot.

We provide on-the-job training for metal roofing and other specialty materials as the opportunity arises. We prioritize constant professional growth in our company, so we will also send our crews to workshops and trainings to learn new techniques.

This is another way that we invest in our roofing crews to provide great quality for you. We care about the personal and professional well-being of our employees, and it shows in their workmanship.

How do I know that RoofSmart is a qualified roofing company?

So, now you know who is on our roofing team and how they are qualified, but aside from that, you may be wondering what makes RoofSmart qualified as a company.

As self-proclaimed roofing nerds, we are prepared to show you we have what it takes. Think of this list of ratings and reviews like our report card:

  • Better Business Bureau Rating: A+
  • Google Reviews: 4.9 out of 5 stars
  • Yelp Reviews: 4 out of 5 stars
  • Years in business: 13

Our other qualifications include being accredited by Better Business Bureau and being certified by a variety of shingle manufacturers. We are Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractors and certified CertainTeed ShingleMasters. These certifications are earned by completing coursework on the manufacturer’s website.

Getting certified through a manufacturer is a good way for roofing companies to demonstrate that they are qualified to work on roofs. Many people outside of the roofing industry do not know about this and do not have access to it, so that makes it difficult for them to use it as a tool for evaluating companies.

Some awards we have received recently are:

  • “Best Roofers In Kent” list for 2024 created by Expertise.com– This site finds and reviews the top roofing professionals all across the U.S. to help customers find the best-qualified roofers for Kent homeowners.
  • Owens Corning Product Excellence Award for 2024– These awards are given out to Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractors in recognition of their quality of work and dedication to customers.

Anyone in Washington State can go out and get a general contractor’s license to become a roofing contractor, even if they aren’t qualified and have no experience. So, it is important to know that the contractors you are considering are well-established in the business and can provide you with excellent work.

We are proud to be an official small business partner of the Seattle Seahawks. This partnership highlights our commitment to excellence, community, and the same values of hard work and dedication that the Seahawks bring to the field. We are excited to support our local team while continuing to offer high-quality roofing solutions to homeowners throughout the region.

At RoofSmart, we are committed to excellence in everything we do and are always happy to share our “report card” with anyone. As you can see, when we obsess over every detail of your roof, you get the high-quality results that you want and deserve.
