Why Hire a Roofing Company to Do All of My Home Improvement Work?

4 min read

By Jim Singleterry

TL;DR: Summary

Some roofing companies offer more than just roofing. They handle services like siding, windows, insulation, framing, and mold remediation to address your home as a complete system.

Hiring one contractor to handle multiple exterior projects can save time, reduce costs, and simplify the process by eliminating the need to coordinate multiple companies.

In this case study, a homeowner combined roof replacement with major repairs like fixing rot, upgrading ventilation, adding insulation, and installing new siding and windows, all in one project.

The key takeaway: if your home needs multiple upgrades, working with a full-service roofing contractor can create a more efficient, cohesive, and cost-effective solution.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the idea of hiring multiple contractors for the roofing, siding, and window replacement your home needs? Do you worry that hiring separate companies could lead to miscommunication, delays, or even mistakes that cost you more time and money?

When your home needs multiple exterior upgrades, managing different contractors can quickly become stressful and expensive.

At RoofSmart, our top priority is making sure that your roofing project goes as smoothly as possible. That’s why we also offer additional services like siding, framing, window installation, mold remediation, attic ventilation updates, and more. That way, you can choose to get all your home improvement work done at once.

In this case study, we’ll break down the pros and cons of hiring one contractor versus multiple contractors, and show you how hiring RoofSmart for your home improvement projects can save you time, money, and frustration while delivering better results for your home.

What services do roofing companies offer beyond roofing?

While some roofing companies only offer services related to roofing, there are other roofers who have expanded their services to include things like siding, insulation refills, and window replacement.

Some roofers hire crews with carpentry experience so that they can offer more advanced services like framing. It all depends on what that roofing company wants to prioritize.

For example, at RoofSmart, we offer all of the services mentioned above and more. Even though we specialize in roofing, we know that a lot of times our customers need work done beyond their roof as well. We want to be able to help with anything that our customers need.

Often, we will replace a customer’s roof, update their attic ventilation system, and treat their attic for mold. But sometimes our customers need help with bigger projects.

Recently, we had a customer who needed a new roof, but their siding and windows were also in need of replacement. Because we do siding and window installation as well, we were able to help this customer meet all their home improvement needs at once.

Should I get my siding and windows redone at the same time as my roof?

If you need a new roof installed, but could also use some new siding and windows, you might be wondering if it’s best to do it all at once or space things out. For our customer who needed roofing, siding, framing, and new windows, the answer was yes.

Doing everything all at once with RoofSmart made the process more efficient for our customer and saved them money (and hassle) by not having to hire a bunch of different contractors that would all need to coordinate with each other.

Initially, our customer was hesitant to do all of the roofing and siding work at once because of the expense. The customer decided that redoing the roof was the biggest priority, so that is what the roofing crew started with.

There was some rotting wood on the roof in places that leaked, so before installing new shingles, the crew made sure to replace all of the rotting wood with new plywood boards.

In addition, the attic was covered in mold, so we treated it, replaced other roof decking boards as needed, and then added new insulation. As the crew made those changes, they also updated the attic ventilation so that air could flow through the attic properly and prevent new mold growth.

As we continued with the project, we were able to get this customer approved for financing, which made it possible for them to get the siding and windows replaced as well.

This customer’s house was rotting from the inside and starting to fall apart. There were leaks all over, which caused framing behind the siding and underneath the front door to rot severely.

There was a lot of rotting wood that needed to be replaced all over the house. But once that was done, the crew was able to replace the siding. While replacing the siding, they also installed new windows.

This customer had struggled to find a contractor who could help with siding since so much of their framing needed to be replaced, and the siding contractor they reached out to did not do framing work.

Luckily, our crews at RoofSmart are able to help with additional projects like siding, framing, and even window installation.

Here’s what the new siding looked like after our crew installed it:

In summary, all of the services we performed on this house include:

  • Roof replacement
  • Mold remediation
  • Updating attic ventilation
  • Adding new insulation
  • Replacing rotten framing and roof decking
  • Installing new siding
  • Installing new windows

Our customer was very happy with all of the work that we did, and they were relieved to have the roofing and siding installed all at once.

What are the benefits of hiring my roofing company to do all of my exterior work?

If your Seattle home needs a lot of exterior work done, then you’re probably dreading having to research, hire, and then coordinate so many different contractors. What would make everything so much simpler and more cost-effective is to hire one contractor who can do it all.

Here are the benefits of hiring a roofing contractor who offers additional services (like RoofSmart):

  • Saves time: The projects can happen all at once, so you don’t have to worry about timing everything perfectly
  • Saves money: Hiring one company for everything means that you’re not paying overhead fees for a bunch of different companies. They’re already out there doing other stuff, so it makes it cheaper to have them do additional projects.
  • Everything is cohesive: When one company does the roofing and siding for your house, it’s easier to make sure that everything matches and looks good together. You only have to have this discussion once instead of multiple times.
  • Makes it easier for you: Hiring multiple contractors and constantly trying to coordinate a bunch of details and logistics for months on end is exhausting. When you hire one company to do it all, they can worry about planning and logistics so you don’t have to.

How do you know if a roofing contractor is qualified to do more than just roofing?

As you’ve seen, hiring one contractor to handle your roofing, siding, windows, and structural repairs can save you time, money, and a lot of stress. But that only works if the contractor actually has the experience, systems, and skilled crews to manage everything properly.

Otherwise, what’s supposed to simplify your project can quickly turn into a bigger headache. That’s why choosing the right contractor is about making sure they’re truly qualified to handle the full scope of your project from start to finish.
